Recommended by Zhou Yu to Sun Quan, he proposed the strategy of dividing the realm into three parts with the Jiangdong region as one. As a counselor of Eastern Wu, he was ordered to offer condolences and invite Zhuge Liang. He was a counselor of Eastern Wu who brought Zhuge Liang to see Sun Quan and strongly advocated resisting Cao Cao.
